The Salt Lake Winter Organizing Committee formally approved venues to be included in the city's bid for the 1998 Winter Olympics, to be delivered to the U.S. Olympic Committee in June.
The sites differ only slightly from those passed by the organizing committee's technical subcommittee in January, when the subcommittee voted to propose two sites for hockey and speed skating.The technical subcommittee had listed Salt Lake City or Provo as possible Olympic hockey sites and Salt Lake City and Ogden as potential speed skating venues, leaving the final decision to the executive committee.
The executive committee agreed that Salt Lake would host hockey, likely in the new Jazz arena, scheduled for completion in 1991, and speed skating in Ogden.
If Salt Lake City wins the U.S. Olympics bid in June it must compete worldwide for the Games in 1991 before the International Olympic Committee, which ultimately will chose an Olympics host.
