A seminar on changes in Utah's employment law will be held for local employers April 19 at the Red Lion Inn.

Sponsored by the law firm Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy, the meeting will focus on the Utah Supreme Court ruling that employers did not have the right to fire employees at will and that terminated employees have the right to sue their employers, a spokesman for the event said.Chris Wangsgard, a member of the firm's Salt Lake office, said presenters will also address drug testing, polygraph testing, employee benefits and pending legislation regarding mandatory parental leave.

"Recent developments in the area of employee benefits and recent EEOC guidelines explaining what employers need to have in their policies to avoid liability for sexual harassment make this an important subject for discussion," Wangsgard said.

Bud Scruggs, Gov. Norm Bangerter's chief of staff, will be the luncheon speaker.
