A University of Utah police officer was injured Wednesday during a motorcycle police training exercise.

Sherman Farnsworth suffered a broken shoulder blade and minor bruises when he lost control of his motorcycle about 1 p.m. during a "break and escape" maneuver designed to teach officers to avoid hitting objects while slowing down from high speeds, said U. Police Lt. Dick Richardson."Something happened and the motorcycle flipped, throwing him over the handlebars," he said. The cycle then ran over Farnsworth, who was treated at LDS Hospital and released.

"The helmet saved his head," said Richardson, adding that the bike apparently ran over Farnsworth's head.
