Stanley B. Parrish, a former Utah congressional candidate, will be the state's new director of economic development, officials in Gov. Norm Bangerter's office said Friday.
Parrish, currently the associate deputy administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington, D.C., will replace Dave Adams. Adams announced his resignation last week after four years as director.Bangerter has made economic development a high priority in his second term. Parrish is expected to be instrumental in helping Utah win the bid to host the 1998 Winter Olympics and in attracting major aerospace and high-technology firms to the state.
Prior to his unsuccessful 1986 primary bid as a Republican candidate in Utah's second congressional district, Parrish was an administrative assistant to Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and finance chairman for Hatch's 1982 re-election campaign.
