A southern Idaho company is the apparent low bidder for a Utah Department of Transportation project to replace a bridge over the Spanish Fork River, officials say.

Idaho Construction Co. Inc., Kimberly, Idaho, had the apparent low bid out of eight submitted. The firm's proposal of $423,737 was nearly $60,000 below the engineer's estimate, said UDOT spokeswoman Shirley Iverson."The contract will not be awarded, however, until the bids are reviewed to make certain no errors were made and that all requirements were met," she said.

The existing 24-foot-wide wooden bridge on U-147, near the southeast shore of Utah Lake, is deteriorating and "structurally inadequate" for traffic, Iverson said. A new bridge 431/2 feet wide, with concrete beams, deck and walls, will be installed.

Work is expected to begin soon and be completed by fall, Iverson said. The road will be closed and traffic detoured during construction.
