A moderate earthquake jolted Southern California Friday, causing at least one minor injury and minor damage, authorities said.
The quake, registering 4.6 on the Richter scale, struck at 1:07 p.m. PDT and was centered directly beneath Newport Beach, said Robert Finn, a spokesman for Caltech seismology lab in Pasadena.A patron eating lunch at RJs rib restaurant in Newport Beach was struck on the head by a picture frame that fell off a shelf, said restaurant manager Jim Traywick.
The quake was felt over a wide area, including as far away as downtown Los Angeles, where it swayed tall buildings.
