Utah Building and Construction Trades Council will be honored with a citation from President Bush in the 1989 President's Volunteer Action Awards.
Members of the council contributed their volunteer services to building the 16-bedroom Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City. The Ronald McDonald House is a home away from home for families of very ill children hospitalized in the Salt Lake City area. More than 4,000 hours and $250,000 in in-kind services went into the construction.Eighteen winners and the 52 who received citations were selected from over 2,000 nominations from across the country. Members of the council include Asbestos Workers Local 69, bricklayers Local 1, Carpenters Local 184, Cement Masons Local 68, Electricians Local 354 and the Electrical Contractors Association, Glaziers Local 911, Laborers Local 295, Operating Engineers Local 3, Painters Local 77 and the Painting and Decorating Contractors Association, and Sheet Metal Workers Local 312.
