Rep. Howard Nielson, R-Utah, has pushed through a subcommittee a bill that he says will lower the price of natural gas for consumers.

The bill would remove all price controls on natural gas by 1993. Nielson said such controls have often kept prices artificially high for years in an attempt to control disparity in prices on gas marketed between or within states."Our intent is to let the market find the true value of domestic natural gas, so we can compete on an even basis with foreign producers and maintain reasonable gas prices for the general consumer," he said.

The bill now goes before the full House Energy and Commerce Committee.
