U. STUDENTS WIN 4 FIRSTS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING MEET

University of Utah civil engineering students won four first places at the Rocky Mountain Regional Conference of the student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineering.

Twelve civil engineering students represented the U. at the conference, held recently at the University of Colorado.The U. students won first place in overall competition. They received the traveling trophy, which had been held by Brigham Young University.

The U. team also won the concrete canoe design competition. Points were awarded in design, construction, presentation, strength of the concrete, canoe aesthetics and speed.

Other U. first-place winners were Tom Nissalke, technical paper, "A Survey of Gate Forecasting Techniques and Their Application at Salt Lake City," and Richard Evans, Calvin George and Kevin Strum, mystery design, column design out of assorted materials.
