Utah environmentalists will lead a six-day bicycle tour of some of the most spectacular desert and mountain country in the state next month.
"Southern Utah Wheel Around," the tour, sponsored by the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, is scheduled for June 5-10. It will cover 343 miles on paved roads, at altitudes ranging from 4,000 to 10,000 feet.The itinerary includes Cedar Breaks National Monument, Dixie National Forest, the Aquarius Plateau, Capitol Reef National Park and the road beside the San Rafael Reef. Side trips will be into Bryce Canyon and Arches national parks.
Also, participants will be able to raft the Colorado and Green rivers, and hike and ride vehicles in Canyonlands National Park.
The tour is limited to 250 bicyclists and costs $250. The price includes outdoor camping facilities, breakfasts, dinners and a $25 donation to SUWA. Limited motel space is available at an extra cost, said a SUWA representative.
