David Schirer, a graduate student at the University of Utah, is one of three recipients of the 1989 Summer Fellowship and Research Fellowship Award sponsored by the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University.
The other recipients are Brian Cannon of the University of Wisconsin and Kenneth Dauber of the University of Arizona.Each winner will receive a $1,000 grant to continue graduate studies. This year's competition drew proposals from leading graduate schools throughout the United States.
Schirer plans to examine the process of urban change in Murray. To complete his work, Schirer will study the archives of the Western Foundation of Miners at Boulder, Colo.
Cannon is studying land-use planning during the Great Depression and Dauber will explore how 20th-century "Anglos" helped maintain the art of Pueblo Indian pottery.
