The number of probable cases of measles has increased to 43 in Carbon and Emery counties.
Ross Martin, public information officer, Utah Department of Health, said Monday that there are six probable cases of measles in Salt Lake County and one in Tooele County. There were 25 probable cases in Carbon and Emery counties on May 8.
To control spread of the disease, the department is recommending unvaccinated students be excluded from public schools and licensed day-care centers. Immunization was also recommended for anyone born after 1956.
Adults who were immunized before 1970 may not be protected. In an outbreak similar to the present situation, health department officials recommend the vaccine be given again to children who were immunized before 15 months of age.
