The City Council shot down a bill calling for Nashville to construct a UFO landing pad, and the lone sponsor of the proposal conceded that some believe his "elevator's not going to the top floor."
But Councilman George Darden insisted he is serious about the need to build a landing port for unidentified flying objects."You might live to regret this day," Darden told the council following the 27-1 vote against his proposal Tuesday night. "Many people have come to me expressing the fact that they are seeing these unidentified flying objects.
"I remember when I was a little boy, about 7 years old, my mama saw a swarm of bees coming. She said, `I'm going to land those bees.' My mama knew what she was talking about. But my mama had not prepared anything to welcome them. All we need to do is build something that says they are welcome."
With all the "Welcome to Music City USA" signs in Nashville, Darden said creatures from outer space will arrive one day, find no where to land "and they'll go back and say we lied."
