Seven Utah college students who have launched successful businesses were honored recently with the Collegiate Enterpriser Award.
Gov. Norm Bangerter presented the award at the Governor's Conference on Economic Development and Education. The award program is sponsored by IBM and Novell.University of Utah senior Geralyn Perkins won first place. She owns Airlooms, a business that sells Utah-produced goods out of state.
Other winners and their businesses are: Rod Cottle, Weber State College, Intent Inc., a firm involved in international marketing; Robert Hill, University of Utah, Hill Enterprises, which produces memory books; Tony Johnson, Utah State University, Johnson Construction, which specializes in roofing, rain gutters and remodeling.
Others are: Mark Dicosola, University of Utah, Picturesque Drawings, a pen-and-ink drawing business; David Alan Jones, Weber State College, The Jones Boys, a yard-care business for residential and commercial clients; and Michael Richards, Utah State University, Richards Brothers Total Landscape Care, a landscaping business for residential and commercial businesses.
