University of Pittsburgh athletic director Edward Bozik, saying an Eastern football league "is an idea whose time may have come," will attend additional meetings this summer for the proposed 12-school conference.
Bozik and the athletic directors of 11 other Eastern seaboard schools met Monday at Rutgers University for preliminary discussions about the long-rumored league. Also attending were athletic directors from Army, Boston College, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Navy, Rutgers, South Carolina, Syracuse, Temple, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
Not attending was Penn State coach Joe Paterno, who still favors an all-sports league rather than a football-only conference.
Among the issues discussed were the CFA's television plan and proposed national championship playoff.
