A hiker reported lost late Wednesday night turned up shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday after search teams and a helicopter combed the foothills east of Layton for several hours.
Curtis Klingerman, 27, Hill Air Force Base, was reported missing at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Davis County Sheriff's Office dispatchers.He started hiking up Hobb's Canyon above U.S. 89 east of Layton at 10 a.m. Wednesday and planned to link up with friends on top of Francis Peak at 6 p.m. He failed to show up and law enforcement agencies were notified.
Search and rescue teams, including search dogs, combed the area all night and a command post was established at the mouth of Hobb's Canyon, near the junction of U.S. 89 and Hillfield Road in east Layton.
Early Thursday morning, the Lifeflight air ambulance joined the search.
Dispatchers said Klingerman reported he became lost while hiking up the canyon and worked his way back down, coming out at the mouth about 7:50 a.m. Thursday. He was not injured.
