Brighton goalie Chris Kuhn makes a high snag of a goal attempt by Woods Cross, backed up by teammate Deron Greenwood, in Thursday's contest at Hillcrest High won by Brighton, 3-0. The Bengals missed a lot of scoring opportunities themselves in the first half but came back strong to open the second half and held on for the victory. Travis Oviatt scored two goals for the Bengals, and Jason Wickens accounted for the other score. In other opening-day games of the 4A state soccer tournament, Davis downed Hillcrest, 3-1; Mountain View edged Taylorsville, 2-1, in overtime; and Clearfield blanked Viewmont, 2-0. Play resumes in the winners' bracket of the double-elimination tourney Saturday as Brighton meets Davis at 7 p.m. and Mountain View plays Clearfield. In the losers' bracket, Hillcrest will tackle Woods Cross at 3:30 p.m. and Taylorsville meets Viewmont.
