Dixie College moved into the championship game of the Region 18 JC Baseball Tournament by out-powering Utah Valley Community College 9-6 Thursday.
Each club had four home runs in the outing, but Dixie got all theirs with men aboard, while UVCC's were all solo shots. UVCC led 2-0 in the fourth when Mark Tolbert unloaded a two-run blast off losing pitcher Walt Bills. Moments later, Kelly Peterson followed with a three-run shot to put Dixie up 5-2.Weddison Ebanks homered in the bottom of the inning to get one back for UVCC, but Chad Erickson cracked a two-run shot in the fifth to make it 7-2, Dixie. In the sixth, UVCC got solo homers from Ebanks and Ron Anderson, but Dixie got those two back in the top of the seventh when Tolbert ripped his second two-run homer of the day. UVCC's Blaine Milne finished the home-run derby with a blast over the left-field wall in the bottom of the seventh.
UVCC reached the matchup with Dixie by beating Ricks 1-0 in the tournament opener. UVCC next takes on Southern Idaho Friday, with the winner facing Dixie for the title.
