FRIENDSHIP CRUISE IS CANCELED DUE TO LOW WATER LEVELS

Low water levels have forced cancellation of the 31st annual Friendship Cruise in southeastern Utah, a Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman said Friday. And federal officials expect fire danger to be high this year.

Snowpack in the Upper Colorado and Northern Utah Basins is ranging 20 to 50 percent below average for the season, according to National Weather Service records.Below average snowfall during March and April and high temperatures early in the season have caused low runoff in the Colorado and Green Rivers.

The Friendship Cruise, traditionally held on Memorial Day Weekend, was scrapped after organizers became aware of low volume in the rivers, said Mary Plumb, of the Bureau of Land Mangement.
