Search teams scouring the rough and swollen seas off Indonesia's resort island of Bali recovered 30 bodies Monday from a capsized ferry, and 128 others remained missing and feared drowned.

Authorities found 167 survivors, many clinging to the overturned hull and metal drums cast overboard in the Sunday disaster, harbor spokesman said. While the government dispatched several helicopters to the scene along with ships, hopes of spotting any more survivors were slim amid the fierce currents and strong winds lashing the area. The ferry, overloaded with 325 passengers in addition to 10 tons of cargo, departed from the island of Lombok without the knowledge of harbor officials, sailed for 14 hours and overturned 15 miles east of Bali.
