WEBER SCHOOL BOARD SEEKS CONSOLIDATION ELECTION ON NOV. 7

The Weber School Board has unanimously approved a resolution asking the Weber County Commission to schedule a school district consolidation election on Nov. 7.

Ogden and Weber district patrons will be asked to decide whether the two districts should merge, forming a single district with nearly 36,500 students and 59 buildings. The Ogden district already has gone on record opposing consolidation. Weber Superintendent Jay Taggart emphasized the Weber board was not taking a position but instead keeping its pledge to place the matter before the voters.

However, the Ogden board also will have to approve a similar resolution and submit it to the county commission before the issue can go to the voters, he said.
