HEARING ON PHONE RATES WILL BE JUNE 2

The Utah Public Service Commission has scheduled a hearing for June 2 at 10 a.m. to hear summary arguments on a $12.3 million rate increase request by US WEST Communications.

The Utah Division of Public Utilities has proposed a $20 million rate decrease, and the Utah Committee of Consumer Services is seeking a $46 million reduction. The PSC has spent the last month hearing testimony concerning the company's revenue needs and how rates should be spread between residential and commercial customers.

US WEST competitors - Tel America and MCI - have requested time for presentations at the hearing along with the Utah Telephone Managers Association.

Following the hearing, the PSC will take the request under advisement and issue a final order later this summer.
