The Utah Valley Community College men's rodeo team won the Utah State Rodeo Saturday, clinching the Rocky Mountain Region title for the first time in the school's history.
UVCC came into the final rodeo holding a slim 48 point lead in the region standings over defending champion Southern Idaho. The Utah team nosed out the Idahoans 400 to 333 in the Utah State Rodeo to increase their final margin to 2,447 to 2,332. Shane Thacker led the way in the Logan competition, taking first in calf roping and winning the all-around. Brady Ripple won the saddle bronc competition, Wayne Brian placed first in bull riding, and Eric Nelson finished second in bareback riding. Justin and Teri Ann Dansie won the team roping event, and in the women's competition, Elisa Lesueur took first in barrell racing.The top two men's and women's teams in the region qualified for the nationals in Bozeman, Montana, June 12-18. For the men, UVCC and CSI both qualified, edging out the four year schools in the region, including Utah State, Weber State, SUSC, Boise State and Idaho State.
