SPANISH DEPARTMENT AT Y. GETS NEW CHIEF

Merlin H. Forster of Provo has been named chairman of the department of Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University. He replaces Ted Lyon, who will continue teaching and conducting research.

In 1987, the College of Humanities named Forster the H. Darrel Taylor Distinguished Professor of Latin American Literature. After receiving an undergraduate degree at BYU, Forster earned a master's degree in Spanish and a doctorate in Spanish at the University of Illinois.
