Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, told his staff to take a hike last week - and so many did that his office won an award.
Hatch's office tied with the office of Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., for having the most staff members participate in a mile walk around the Capitol Friday as part of National Employee's Fitness Day.Each office had 87 percent of its employees participate, so each will be awarded a plaque. Staffers who went on the walk also received ribbons for participating.
"The senator really wanted to win this one," said Jeanne Lopatto, his assistant press secretary. Hatch is especially concerned about fitness because he is the ranking Republican on the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee, which oversees health issues.
