BOARD APPROVES PAYMENT FOR QUAIL CREEK VICTIMS

The Washington County Water Conservancy Board has authorized payments of up to $473,000 to 62 victims of flooding from the New Year's Day failure of the Quail Creek Reservoir dike.

The payments represent the amount the state promised to pay after reviewing claims. Payment is conditioned on claimants releasing the state and the Conservancy District from liability, said District Manager Ron Thompson.Thompson said one additional claimant, Watson's Pump Service, qualified for Federal Emergency Management Administration reimbursement and would not be included in the state reimbursement.

The board also approved a resolution designating May 25 as a cutoff date for individuals filing claims with the district, which has $3 million from the state to pay all remaining claims.
