The Utah Department of Transportation has scheduled a May 30 public hearing in Moab on a proposal to reconstruct U-313 from U.S.-191 to Island in the Sky Road.
The state agency has proposed reconstruction the 14.6-mile section to provide a new two-lane road with 11-foot-wide travel lanes, 4-foot shoulders and a 4-foot bicycle path on both sides, said UDOT spokesman Jim Johnston. It is estimated the project, on the road leading to Dead Horse Point, would cost about $10 million, Johnston said.
The first phase would extend from U.S. 191 about six miles, he said, while the remaining improvements would depend on available funding.
Under the proposal, UDOT would begin acquisition of additional right of way this summer and complete the first phase about a year later, the spokesman said.
The hearing will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand County Courthouse.
