STATE AND S.L. ARE SUED OVER `ILLEGAL FORCED ENTRY'

Two women have filed a federal lawsuit against the state, two Adult Probation and Parole agents, Salt Lake City and one of its police officers for what they say was an illegal forced entry into the home of one of the women.

Carla Webb and Jodie Gibson claim that agents Robert Pouton and Jeff Sundquist, together with Salt Lake City police officer Kyle Jones, kicked in the door of Webb's Salt Lake home on Dec. 4, 1985, and entered without permission or warrant. A form filed by Webb says the action occurred the day after her husband had been arrested. The suit says the men caused the door to hit Webb, "knocking her into a wall with such force that her earring was imbedded into her flesh and her head and shoulder were injured." The men then pushed Webb to the floor, held her and took from her four tires, four jugs and an ornamental sword, later returning the tires, the complaint says.

When Webb tried to send Gibson from the room to get help, the men seized Gibson and detained her, the complaint says.

Among the suit's allegations are violation of constitutional rights, assault, false imprisonment, abuse of official authority and the making of a false report to justify the action. The plaintiffs seek $250,000 in compensatory damages and, from the individual defendants, $250,000 in punitive damages.
