Brigham Young University has awarded prestigious four-year Ezra Taft Benson Scholarships to three high school seniors from the Salt Lake area beginning next fall.

Jeff Anderson, Salt Lake City, and Trent Davis Beal and Dean Wheeler, both of West Valley City, were among the 12 young men and 12 young women nationwide chosen on the basis of superior scholarship, leadership ability, high moral character and service to school, community and church.

As the top scholarship offered by BYU, each grant is for a minimum of $10,400 for four years but may be as much as $14,400, depending upon the financial need of the recipient.

The scholarships, which bear the name of the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were first awarded while David O. McKay was president in the mid-1960s.
