Restoration architect Allen Roberts said volunteers also are being sought, mainly to clean the facade, obscured by years of grime.
A $150,000 loan from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and a $25,000 donation from the Eccles family should cover the facade work and repair of the theater roof, Allen said.
The price tag for the entire restoration project is estimated at $2.2 million.
The foundation is sending requests for proposals for the entire project to more than 20 architects with expertise in theater restoration, Allen said. Interviews are planned through the summer before a selection is made.
The foundation's fund-raising committee also is finalizing plans for a July fund-raiser that would include a reception in the theater and a dinner-dance at the Union Station.
