SUMMER SCHOOL APATHY

Boise's ninth-graders who have earned poor grades during the school year apparently are not concerned with improving them in summer school, district officials say.

Boise freshmen who failed or received D's in English or math classes are eligible for free summer school courses. But, of the 451 who qualify, only 50 are signed up.Jack Craven, director of curriculum, said he is alarmed that 29 percent of all ninth-graders are doing so poorly.
