Utah has signed a 6-foot-4-inch leaper out of Gary, Ind., to a basketball letter of intent, head coach Rick Majerus announced Wednesday.
Byron Wilson, a guard/forward, who attended Lew Wallace High School, averaged 19 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.8 steals per game. He also had 38 dunks. Wilson shot 52 percent from the field as a senior and 63 percent as a junior and 80 percent from the free throw line during his prep career."Byron is first and foremost an excellent young man," said Majerus. "He ranks near the top quarter of his class . . . I also like the fact that he played in a very good high school program against some outstanding competition. I believe his team played a least two of the top 20 high school teams in the country."
Wilson played in the Oklahoma-Indiana High School All-Star game where he scored 25 points and won the slam-dunk contest. He was named all-city, all-conference and all-state.
