About 4,000 key Utah business leaders will receive a new brochure extolling the virtues of establishing child care in their business.
The brochure was published by the governor's office, the Utah Board of Business and Economic Development and the Utah Division of Business and Economic Development and contains a message from Gov. Norm Bangerter."I encourage you to make good quality child care a major concern of your business. As a businessman, a father and grandfather, I am committed to quality child care for all our children," the governor said.
Bonnie Miller, a member of the economic and development board, said the purpose is to educate business leaders on the 11 available options in child care. The brochure will be mailed in June.
According to 1988 Utah Department of Employment Security and Utah Department of Social Service figures, about 50 percent of Utah's 506,000 children under 13 need child care because their parents work.
The brochure contains testimonials from leaders of several large Utah businesses who say having child care services in their business improves morale among their employees and helps in recruiting new employees.
At the June 1 monthly economic development division update meeting in Room 303 of the State Capitol, Carol Clark, director of communications and research for the Utah Department of Community and Economic Development, will introduce the brochure. Laura Scholl, manager of economic development for US WEST Communications and a member of the Governor's Task Force on Child Care, will be the speaker.
