Pre-registration deadline is May 5 for Utah State University's Infancy and Early Childhood Conference, scheduled June 12-16.

After the deadline, participants must register on campus.The conference will report on current research on topics of concern to parents, early childhood educators, mental and physical health care providers and sociologists. Attendance is open to the public.

According to Dr. Frank Ascione, conference director and associate professor of psychology, "Some of the researchers and practitioners leading the field of infancy and early childhood will participate in the weeklong meetings.

Topics will include the genetics of temperament, "nature vs. nurture" issues; parent-infant social interactions and effects of family and marital discordance on the way an infant develops; concerns about day-care centers; and origins and treatment of family distress.

Registration may be completed through USU's Conference and Institute Division, USU, Logan, UT 84322-5005, or by calling 750-1690. The conference may be taken for graduate or undergraduate credit, continuing education units or without credit.
