The Deseret News Home and Summer Living Show continues through Sunday at the Salt Palace to offer information, entertainment and enlightment for Utahns.

Hundreds of booths, featuring everything from home buying or remodeling to summer recreation, along with how-to-do-it tips from professionals, are part of the show, which opened Thursday.Sponsored in cooperation with the Home Builders Association of Greater Salt Lake and the Newspaper Agency Corp., this year's free show is combined with the annual Showcase of Homes. Show hours are Friday to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Some of the highlights of this year's show includes a "Bake-Off Bonanza," a contest for the best homemade cakes, pies and cookies Saturday morning, and a daily treasure hunt with a gas barbecue grill given away daily.

Treasure hunters may pick up an entry form and rules at the Deseret News Information Center. One entry per person 18 years of age or older will be allowed.

In the HBA area, photographs of nine new homes constructed by its members will be displayed. The new dwellings, featured in the organizations's annual Showcase of Homes, are located throughout Salt Lake County.

After visiting the Salt Palace exhibits, showgoers are invited to tour the homes during regular open house activities during the week.

In addition, merchants will have booths throughout the spacious hall to introduce Utahns to new home improvement ideas, home decorating, patio and lawn furniture, do-it-yourself projects and recreational suggestions.

Broadcasting live from the show will be KSOP on FM104 and AM-1370.

This year's show has been expanded to four days to accommodate the crowds that attended previous exhibits.
