The Beach Boys. Yes. Chicago. The Doobie Brothers. Bonnie Raitt. The Steve Miller Band. The Who. Neil Diamond.

Sound like a concert line up from 1974 or so? Maybe, but these veteran rockers are all scheduled to make Utah appearances this summer, most of them at a newly revamped ParkWest. All of which has fans of old-time hits looking through the closet for their bell bottoms and platform shoes.Oh sure, there will be other '80s bands this summer like New Order and Howard Jones. But 1989 is shaping up as the revival of classic rock 'n' roll. And United Concerts and ParkWest are banking on the belief there are hundreds of thousands of now-grown rock 'n' rollers willing to shell out a few bucks to see one of their favorite bands of yesteryear.

The summer season kicks off May 31 with a double feature of the Beach Boys and Chicago. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.

Other shows this summer include:

-The Nylons, June 2 at BYU Wilkinson Center at 8 p.m.

-Neil Diamond, June 16, 17, 18 at the Salt Palace.

-New Order, the Sugarcubes and PIL, June 21 at ParkWest at 7:30 p.m.

-Steve Miller Band and Bonnie Raitt, July 12 at ParkWest at 7:30 p.m.

-Dolly Parton, July 20 at ParkWest at 7:30 p.m.

-Utah Blues and Jazz Festival, July 28-20 at Snowbird.

-The Who, Aug. 15 at the Salt Palace at 8 p.m.

A reunion tour of Steve Howe, Rick Wakeman, Jon Anderson and the other original members of Yes will visit ParkWest Sept. 2. However, because that configuration of Yes no longer owns the rights to the Yes name, they will tour under their personal names.

Dates for Howard Jones and the Doobie Brothers have not yet been confirmed. Other concerts will be added to the schedule throughout the summer, concert promoters say.

United Concerts is also making qualitative improvements this season, including limiting the number of tickets sold.

"At 10,000, we stop selling. That's it; no more, " said United Concerts president Jim McNeil. "And we will have reserved seats (2,500) that will cost more money but will ensure comfort in the front section."

-A VIP package of reserved tickets, dinner at the Trails End Restaurant and a pass for the VIP parking lot is also being offered this year. For more information on the package, contact ParkWest offices at 649-5400.
