The Salt Lake Opera Theatre returns to the stage this week with three evenings of Puccini's "Madame Butterfly." Performances will be in the Judge Memorial auditorium, 650 S. 11th East, on May 11, 13 and 15 at 7:30 p.m.

"We find this auditorium ideally suited to the demands of our productions," said Robert Zabriskie, artistic director of the opera company. The production will mark the 10th season of the group, whose goal is to provide an intermediate level of performance, between student and professional, for aspiring musicians in the intermountain area.Heidi Bloyer will star as the faithful Cio-Cio-San, who waits in vain for the return of her "husband," Lt. B.F. Pinkerton, sung by tenor Roger Summerhays. Robert Van Wagenen will sing Sharpless, the American consul, and Beryl Smiley is Suzuki, Butterfly's servant. Others in the cast are David Peck as Goro, Terry Summerhays as the Bonze, and Kathy Mickelson as Kate Pinkerton.

Zabriskie will conduct the soloists, chorus and orchestra, with Reed Coombs as stage director. Tickets at $5, $3 for students, will be available at the door.
