The Davis School District will pay an insurance broker $50,000 for one year to try help cut employee health insurance costs.
The School Board approved the contract with Fred A. Morton and Co. to help retool the district's health insurance program. District officials say that their present carrier, Murray-based Educators Mutual, has said it will raise district health insurance rates by 22 percent.Faced with the increases, the district for the first time in recent memory, will go out to bid for its insurance. The current contract expires in September. District officials want Fred A. Morton to help in the process as well as develop a long-term insurance program that is more cost effective.
