2 LARGEST FOOD FIRMS ARE BASED IN EUROPE

The United States is home to two-thirds of the world's largest food companies, but the two largest food companies are headquartered in Europe.

Food Engineering International, a trade publication, compiled a list of the world's largest food companies and found that Nestle SA of Switzerland, parent company of Nestle Foods, leads all others with annual sales of $24.2 billion.England's Unilever came in second with food sales of $15.2 billion, and the American company Phillip Morris/General Foods was third, with sales of $13 billion.

Also in the Top 10 are Kraft Inc., $9.8 billion; RJR Nabisco, $9.4 billion; Daigety Pic, England, $9 billion; Conagra Inc., $9 billion; Anheuser-Busch, $8 billion; Occidental Petroleum-I Inc., $7.6 billion; and Coca-Cola Co., $7.6 billion.
