SHARE YOUNG LINGUISTS WIN SCHOLARSHIPS

Students from Cedar City, Hurricane and Pine View high schools are winners of Southern Utah State scholarships as a result of their excellent showing at the 11th Annual SUSC Foreign Language Festival.

Several hundred students from southern and central Utah schools competed in German, Spanish and French language contests at the recent meet, according to festival director Dick Carlson.Students competed in general skills, poetry, skits, games, vocabulary, dictation, oratory, culture and conversation. Contests for various levels of experience were held for each language, and an additional division was held for bilingual Spanish-speaking participants.

Full-tuition SUSC scholarships went to seniors Lori Lamoreaux, Pine View, in Spanish, and to Cedar High School students Marie Foster and Bruce Rigby in French and German, respectively. Partial scholarships were awarded Vickie Jensen, Hurricane, in Spanish, and Jennifer Gubler, Cedar City, in French.
