Southern Utah State's telethon goal has been exceeded - thanks to the efforts of volunteer fund-raisers who netted more than $40,000 in scholarship money.

Plaques were awarded recently to Artis Grady, Michael Anderson and Carol Ann Jones. Grady secured $2,020 in telephone pledges in a single evening - the highest by a non-student caller. Anderson, a graduating senior, set the student record for a single night at $980. Jones, president of the SUSC Alumni Association, was the champion department/organization winner at $4,890.SUSC's 18th telethon goal was set at $40,000. A total of $40,120 in pledges were received. "A lot of people are sending in more than they actually pledged," Brinkerhoff said.

Money collected is earmarked for an estimated 40 full-tuition scholarships for the 1990-91 school year. Donors can designate which department receives their pledge.
