Five Bountiful area students soon will be packing their bags for a trip to the Soviet Union.

Four students from South Davis Junior High and one from Woods Cross High School will spend 16 days visiting Moscow, Leningrad, Kiev, Odessa and Yalta from June 21 to July 6, said Gary Holt, teacher and chaperone."Hopefully we will be meeting with Soviet teenagers. This is all aimed at contact between teenagers," Holt said.

Holt, who formerly taught Russian at the University of Utah, said he hopes the students learn to understand Russian culture and language. Holt has conducted 10 tours of college-age students to the Soviet Union.

The students were originally scheduled to spend each morning in classes offered through Intourist, the Soviet Union travel agency, but those classes have been canceled, Holt said.

Some of the students have earned money for the trip, others are being assisted by their parents. Cost per person is $2,500. The students will fly from Salt Lake City to the East Coast and then to Berlin. From Berlin the group will travel to Moscow.
