A new University of Utah summer program will offer academic classes for highly motivated and accelerated students entering the 8th and 9th grades.

The Youth Academy of Excellence, scheduled for July 10-21, will offer work in three academic strands - mathematics, English-writing and science-humanities. The program will be taught by U. faculty and secondary teachers but will also have guest lecturers from their field of expertise. Field trips will also be used.The program is modeled after gifted programs at Stanford, Johns Hopkins and Duke universities, said program director Kari Schaerrer.

The cost is $275, and the registration must be received by June 9. Call Shaerrer at 581-6984.
