Bobby Shiver surveys damage in his East Point, Fla., neighborhood after a tornado struck the area Thursday evening, demolishing the mobile home seen in the background. Rain prevailed across the East on Friday, and thunderstorms, some of them severe, rumbled along the southern Atlantic Coast, creating conditions favorable to tornadoes in eastern parts of the Carolinas and portions of northern Florida. Another twister touched down near Valdosta, Ga., but no damages or injuries were reported. Flash flood warnings were issued for extreme southeast Georgia after storms dumped more than 3 inches of rain on Thursday and Friday.
