Two new stakes have been created in Venezuela and Utah.

Elder Angel Abrea of the First Quorum of the Seventy officiated at the creation of the Caracas Venezuela Urdaneta Stake, the sixth stake in Venezuela. The new stake, which has 2,950 members, consists of the Urdaneta, La Pastora, El Paraiso, Caricuao, and Las Acacias wards and the San Antonio and Los Teques branches.Elder Vaughn J. Featherstone, a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy, officiated at the creation of the 17th stake at BYU. The new stake consists of the College 4th and BYU 18th, 33rd, 62nd, 98th, 103rd and 146th wards.

SALT LAKE BONNEVILLE STAKE: (May 7, 1989) President - Byron Lloyd Poelman, 54, attorney, succeeding W. Eugene Hansen; former Sunday School general board member, bishop and gospel doctrine teacher, married Catherine "E" Edwards. Counselors - Robert Lewis Bauman, 36, vice president of savings and loan, former high councilor, bishop and counselor, and ward mission leader, married Colleen Nichols; George Homer Durham II, 44, pediatrician, former high councilor, bishop, high priests group leader, seventies quorum president, and Primary and Junior Sunday School teacher, married Christine Louise Meaders.
