BEATING THE HEAT

KELLIANN MURTHA, 11, LEFT, DIDN'T HAVE TO COOL OFF FROM 80-DEGREE TEMPERATURES BY HERSELF. SHE GOT A HELPING HAND FROM SISTER LAUREEN, 13, ABOVE RIGHT, AND FRIEND LI BECK, 4, AT FIFTH AVENUE AND H STREET. CLEAR SKIES AND WARM TEMPERATURES WILL CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY WITH HIGHS IN THE MID-80S TO LOW 90S. SOME SCATTERED AFTERNOON AND EVENING THUNDERSHOWERS ARE EXPECTED, MOSTLY NEAR THE MOUNTAINS. CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY WITH BREEZY SOUTH WINDS IN THE WESTERN VALLEYS. OVERNIGHT LOWS WILL BE BETWEEN 45 AND 55 DEGREES. "OUTSIDE OF SOME ISOLATED SHOWERS ON THE EASTERN SIDE OF THE STATE, WE SHOULD STAY PRETTY DRY," SAID WILLIAM J. ALDER, METEOROLOGIST IN CHARGE OF THE SALT LAKE OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE.
