The New Zealand 19-and-under boys fastpitch softball team, the world champions for that age group, opened a series of exhibition games at the Cottonwood Complex Tuesday night with an 8-3 victory over the LMS Sultans, a local Class A team.

New Zealand, tuning up for a defense of the world title later this month, will be in town through Sunday for the Class A Pioneer Days tournament. The exhibition schedule continues tonight (6:30 and 8:30) against two local All-Star teams and Thursday against Bud Bailey Construction and Page Brake. The Pioneer Days tournament opens Friday.
