A missing 9-year-old girl who was the object of a search by police and 5,500-man NATO force was found alive Friday, Denmark's public radio said.

"She's fine, considering the circumstances," said police commissioner Erik Dissing in the town of Nykoebing Falster. He did not elaborate.Police declined to disclose details of Malene Hansen's 48-hour disappearance or say how she was found. She was being examined by a doctor, the radio said.

Police were checking a report that the girl was picked up by someone driving a red car when she went missing, the report said.

Malene disappeared from her home in the town of Sakskoebing in the Baltic island of Lolland on Wednesday evening.

NATO's Allied Mobile Force which was holding an exercise in the area volunteered to aid in the search on Friday.
