Millionaire businessman Holmes Tuttle, a Republican and confidant of presidents Reagan and Eisenhower, has died after a brief illness. He was 83.

Tuttle had been admitted to Cottage Hospital after suffering a stroke eight weeks earlier, said Joseph J. Keon, his son-in-law. He died Friday.Tuttle, a one-time golfing partner of former President Eisenhower, helped Ronald Reagan win the governorship of California in 1966.
