Church leaders in the Northeast area have joined with religious leaders of other faiths in a pledge to fight drug-related crime.

"The primary reason behind our joining with these leaders is because drugs and violence are a part of our neighborhoods and communities," explained Kenneth W. Whitt, regional representative for the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Region. Elder Whitt was one of several Church leaders attending a recent press conference at the Washington Temple Visitors Center. The press conference was sponsored by the Interfaith Council of Churches of Washington D.C., and hosted by the Church's Washington D.C. Public Communications Office. The religious leaders, representing 1,500 congregations that also included Islamic, Jewish, Protestant, Catholic and Sikh faiths, pledged long-term involvement in seeking solutions to drug abuse and drug-related crime.
